Romancing the Highlands

Dunnottar Romance

 

 

I'll be honest.  I'm a sucker for romance.  Most of you have been with me long enough to have figured that out long ago, maybe even before I did.  If its soft and dreamy, misty and romantic, ruined and ghostly I can find the story in that immediately and the narrator in my head starts to spin a tale.  So where do I go to feed my romantic soul you ask?  Scotland, of course.  Is there any spot on earth better suited to romance?  There's the breath taking landscapes, the history steeped in drama, soft, cold, misty days perfect contemplation.  I'm headed back in a week or so for my regular fill up.  My dear friends Shannon and Mario at Scottish Dream Tours  are helping me "feed the need" again this year.  I can't wait to see what we see.  Last year one of the stops was the sigh worthy Dunnottar Castle you can see at the top of the page.  I spent the time between trips being sustained by having my favorite novel, Outlander, realized as a television series on Starz network.  How thrilling to see these characters come to life as well as seeing Scotland so beautifully captured.  If the stars align, I might even come across a cast member or shooting location on this trip.  But you know, just being able to spend time in the magical, mystical, mist filled land that is Scotland will be enough.  Stay tuned my friend.  I plan to share images as I go along, wifi allowing.  You'll be able to follow along here, on Instagram and my Facebook page. All are linked on my site www.kclarkphotos.com

Holy Smokes Arizona was so beautiful

Hello from Arizona-

I've spent the last few days running some red dirt roads around the Wupatki National Monument.  Those are the San Francisco Peaks just north of Flagstaff on the horizon.

 

 

There were blooming plants everywhere.

 

 

 

My resident plant expert and companion for this leg of the trip shared all kinds of details about what I saw filling the landscape around me.  I've even got a couple of "boots" from a saguaro that had passed away to take home.

 

 







 

Here is Janet braving the cliff's edge to get some terrific panorama shots.  This from an amazing/breath taking/teeth rattling/OMG how do people not die on this road trip along the rim road of the Mogollon Rim near Payson.

 

 

 

 

We managed to conjure a rainbow while coming off the mountain from Jerome headed back towards Sedona.  So many more adventures as well that just can't be captured with images alone.

 

 

 

 

So I'm headed back East and still finding such lovely scenes.  I'll leave you tonight with this last image captured this evening as the thunderstorms roll by.  The lovely farmland just outside Willcox AZ.  I can safely say that Arizona has been added to my list of places to explore again and again.  I was surprised over and over by the lushness, forested mountains, mystery lakes, cliff side roads and multicolored rocks.  I'll have more to share soon.

First views from the New Mexico Road Trip

 

 

Hello from the road-

 

It isn't all fun and games when you are on the road.  I mean, you have to wake up to breathtaking views along the Rio Ruidoso.

 

 

You have to travel back roads to magical places filled with blue skies, green grass, burned trees that still manage to be majestic and hillsides holding them all together.

 

 

 

Then comes the historic sites that tell stories all their own.

 

 

Its a tough job but I guess I'll keep at it. 

 

First full day in New Mexico did not disappoint.

Starving Artist Art Show and Sale

Hello friend-

I thought I'd give you a little preview of some of what I'm taking with me to the art show this weekend.  Of course all my work is available to order but these images you'll be able to walk off with and hang when you get home.  There will be a selection of #Outlander inspired images, some Texas flair, Italian style and a bit of the magical.

 

 

 

I hope to see you there even if its only to say Hey.  I'll be sharing booth space with my good photo buddy Peter Florczak.  Its fun to see our different styles side by side.  You could call it "He saw, She saw" or something similar. I think the contrast helps to show each to their best advantage.

A whole new part of Scotland to love

I'm spending the week in and around the Kintyre penisula and finding out just how beautiful it is.  The Kilmartin Glen dotted with standing stones and cairns, rolling hills and reflective lochs is a photographers paradise.  I've definely added it to my list of places to explore extensively.  I often laugh with my photography buddies about how we travel differently then other folks and how hard it must be for others to travel with us when we are in control.  I'd need a bumper sticker that reads "this car makes frequent stops".    There is also a trek or walk you can make down the whole of Kintyre that I've added to my "to do" list.  

So here's a little info about the first two images below.  The first is taken from the ferry from Oban to Mull.  We were returning after a day spent exploring Tobermory.  I couldn't have asked for lovelier weather or better clouds for that matter.  These images will be a joy to edit when I get back home.  The second image was taken while driving down the road between Craignure where the ferry lands and Tobermory.  I hadn't vistied that part of Mull before.  The bluebells were blanketing hills and roadside alike.  

I'm glad Mario was at the wheel.  I know I would have been a hazzard with all the rubber necking I was doing.
